Timing Belt Replacement

Our team have replaced thousands of timing belts on vehicles of all makes and models.

We know how crucial a properly functioning timing belt is to your engine’s performance and longevity. One small issue can lead to major damage — that’s why so many drivers trust us to get it right the first time.

What is a Timing Belt?

  • Your car’s timing belt is a vital engine component that keeps everything running in perfect sync. It controls the timing of the engine’s internal components — specifically making sure the camshaft and crankshaft rotate in harmony, so that the engine’s valves open and close at the right times during each cylinder’s intake and exhaust strokes.

  • Over time, the timing belt wears out and can become cracked, stretched, or even snap — which can cause serious engine damage. Most manufacturers recommend replacing it at specific mileage or time intervals (often between 60,000–100,000 miles), depending on your vehicle.

  • At PW Auto Repairs, we use quality parts and follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when carrying out timing belt replacements. If your car is due a timing belt change, don’t delay — it’s one of the most important preventative maintenance jobs you can do.

Timing Belt, Cambelt, Toothed Belt – What’s the Difference?

  • These terms all refer to the same component — the timing belt. It’s also commonly called a cambelt (short for “camshaft belt”) or a toothed belt because of its ridged design. No matter the name, they all do the same job: keeping your engine's moving parts in sync.

  • A timing chain, on the other hand, does the same job but is made of metal and runs inside the engine, much like a bicycle chain. Timing chains typically last longer than belts, but they can still wear out and need maintenance over time.

  • If you’re unsure which your car has, just give us a call — we’ll be happy to check for you.
