Brake Fluid Change
Your car's brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which can lead to brake failure. Car manufacturers recommend that you change your brake fluid every 2 years to keep your braking system at it's optimum.
What's included in a Brake Fluid Change
During a brake fluid change at PW Auto Repairs, our technicians check your current brake fluid level and moisture content as well as assess your brake components for any damage or leaks.

We use a pressure bleeder to perform the brake fluid change – this pumps a constant supply of new fluid under pressure into the brake fluid reservoir to avoid air getting into the system.

Most Modern vehicles require the use of a diagnostic tool — or 'brake fluid pressure sensor' — is also required to enable a bleed function on the ABS controller. This bleed function ensures that all the old fluid is purged from the different pathways and valves within the ABS pump.
At PW Auto Repairs, we use a high specification brake fluid designed to meet the demands of modern electronic stability control systems.
Is a Brake Fluid Change included in a Car Service?
A brake fluid change is not typically included in a vehicle service. During our services, we include a check of your brake fluid to ensure that the boiling point and general condition is ok. We will top up brake fluid during a normal service, however this is not the same as conducting a full change.

Car manufacturers recommend that you change your brake fluid every 2 years, so if we know your vehicle's history, we'll make recommendations accordingly
What happens if I don't change my car's brake fluid?
As brake fluid gets older, it can decrease braking performance, requiring more force to bring the vehicle to a stop. Additionally, dirty fluid accelerates wear on parts like the master cylinder and calipers. In extreme cases, neglecting to change your brake fluid can result in complete failure of the braking system.
That’s why we recommend following the manufacturer's schedule, which is typically every 2 years.

Why does Brake Fluid Change deteriorate?
Brake fluids are hygroscopic, meaning they will absorb moisture when exposed to air. The main enemy of brake fluid is moisture and this can be absorbed through brake lines or the brake fluid reservoir even when the vehicle is not driven. As the moisture content in the brake fluid increases, the temperature the liquid boils at decreases. The boiling point can be significantly reduced by water contamination which will have a negative effect on your braking ability.
